چکیده

A computer simulation using the C++ programming language was developed in order to model an experiment of a particle in a bistable optical trap. By checking the simulation against actual measurements for quantities such as the particle’s mean squared displacement and average velocity, the diffusion coefficient for the simulation was determined in relation to that of the experiment. In addition, a relationship between the experimental and simulated units was made. A main purpose of this simulation is to give insight into the behavior of the particle in the experiment.

Partial synchronization of stochastic oscillators through hydrodynamic coupling.

Holographic optical tweezers are used to construct a static bistable optical potential energy landscape where a brownian particle experiences restoring forces from two nearby optical traps and undergoes thermally activated transitions between the two energy minima. Hydrodynamic coupling between two such systems results in their partial synchronization. This is interpreted as an emergence of hig...

Optical Torques on Upconverting Particles for Intracellular Microrheometry.

Precise knowledge and control over the orientation of individual upconverting particles is extremely important for full exploiting their capabilities as multifunctional bioprobes for interdisciplinary applications. In this work, we report on how time-resolved, single particle polarized spectroscopy can be used to determine the orientation dynamics of a single upconverting particle when entering...

measuring viscoelastic properties of Red Blood Cell using optical tweezers

Efforts have been made to study the behavior of complex materials in micrometer dimensions with various techniques. One of these methods is the use of optical tweezers for biophysical applications. Red blood cells, as the most abundant blood-forming cells, play an important role in the life of living organisms, and their unique mechanical properties are important. In this report, the study of s...

Monte-Carlo Calculation of Radon Absorbed Dose in Optical Fiber as a Novel Method in Dosimetry and Radon Measurement

Introduction Radon is a colorless and tasteless gas which exists in most soils. It is a substance that poses a potential risk for lung cancer in case a person is exposed to high levels over long periods of time. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that 90% of lung cancers per year are caused by radon. The aim of this paper is to estimate the absorbed doses of 222Rn by MCNPX simu...

The effect of Mie resonances on trapping in optical tweezers.

We calculate trapping forces, trap stiffness and interference effects for spherical particles in optical tweezers using electromagnetic theory. We show the dependence of these on relative refractive index and particle size. We investigate resonance effects, especially in high refractive index particles where interference effects are expected to be strongest. We also show how these simulations c...
